Frankly, I have no idea! Although Pontrieux was quite lovely, so is Treguer. They both had great displays of flowers throughout their towns and they both encouraged local artisans to fill their shops with handmade pieces of art. We particularly enjoyed one such shop that contained handmade pottery and sculpted figures of local birds done in clay and in glass. The puffins were particularly well done. We fell into an easy conversation with the young woman in the shop who happened to have created the birds I was admiring. We chatted as she sculpted a little bird in clay. It turns out that her parents live in one of our favorite city's in Bretagne, Dinard. I gave her the name of a book for her mother to read. It is set in Dinard just before WWII.
Not sure how the French define “charm” but we thought the city was well worth a visit. It has a great deal of character!
