The largest city in Normandy is Rouen. Its history is rich and plentiful. We followed the Joan D'Arc trail on another vsist Today, we concentrated on the Cathedral made famous by Monet. It too is under construction as a result of contributions from the Historical Monument Fund. And as we were strolling down a street, a few blocks from the Cathedral, we noticed a bust and sure enough it was Monet.(see in photo gallery)It was dedicated to him for his making famous the Rouen Cathedral. It was also bigger than the busts in the Honfleur park so we knew the people of Rouen hadn't “borrowed” it from Honfleur!
It was great to see so many young people having lunch in the restaurants. Rouen like so many other cities in France has too many empty stores for rent. Unfortunately it's, another sign of a sagging economy! But on thid day, the opened stores were bustling and everyone seemed to be enjoying their lunch!
