It is amazing what photography can do to a building! The brochure makes the chateau look quite large. It is lovely, with a surrounding moat, but not on the grand scale of a chateau in the Loire Valley. The most interesting feature is the combination of two architectural styles. The timber-framed manor used in the late 15th Century is combined with the 16th Century glazed brick and stone style. The glazed brick must not stand up very well because you don't see very many homes decorated with them. The chateau was taken over by the town of Lisieux and it is furnished with period pieces. It was declared a Historical Monument and this enables a site to receive much needed money from the the State. There is some kind of bird that lives in the surrounding woods. You can't see them but their shrill calls break the peaceful calm of the environment, unfortunately, on a fairly regular basis.
