Pucón - aborted volcano trekking x 2

CHILE | Saturday, 14 February 2009 | Views [623]

13th Feb - Had hoped to climb the Villarrica Volcano but due to the rain first thing in the morning the guide and owner of the hostel advise that it would not be a good idea.  So getting up at 6:00 am was unnecessary ordea!  Spent the rest of the day mooching.

14th Feb – 2nd attempt of climbing Villarrica Volcan.  Another early start….four us set of to base point of the climb, the four being me, Herman, Jaime and Carol….a really lovely couple from North Carolina.  Despite the good weather, the volcano was emitting a lot of gas, and the wind was blowing it down the main track…..so aborted again

Myself, Jaime and Carol headed off for some trekking in the Parque Nacional Huerquehue some 40mins out of town.   It was a beautiful area; dense woodland, waterfalls and hills.   From various points we had a great view of the volcano.  It was a great walk..albiet all up hill, but the reward of the lakes at the top of the hill were great.  The sun was out, so spent a while relaxing by the lake and taking the occasional dip in the cold waters of the lake.
