Provence, France
Wow, how good it is to be reunited with our
Kevin at St Rémy! He’d been hibernating over winter, hadn’t misbehaved, hadn’t been
invaded by birds or bugs and was ready for another year of fun and games. This was to be a period of slowing down and
that’s just what it turned out to be.
Less travel, more slow cooking, more sleeping in. We enjoyed stunning
sunsets overlooking Les Baux-de-Provence, St Remy’s market food, the old bridge
at Avignon, a day trip up to the lovely Menerbes (where Mayle wrote about his
year in Provence), a visit to the famous Abbey de Senanque near Gorges to see
the classic Provence lavender, a lazy picnic in an orchard by the Rhône,
flamingos over the Camargue, stumbling across Van Gogh’s Le Pont de Langlois, just as it had been on the day when he
stumbled upon it! Amazingly, even though
he finished more than 900, Van Gogh sold only one painting in his
lifetime…what a miserable end to a troubled life.
