Connie is a birder. Though she tries to deny it the truth is plain. She seldom goes outdoors without binoculars. Our library is filled with bird guidebooks from around the world, dog-eared and duck-taped from wear, each page marked with dates and places the species was first identified. On a list of the roughly 10,000 species in the world she has checked off over 2000 she has seen. And we haven't been to South America. You decide - is she a birder?
I share her interest but not her compulsion. I take the photos. Some are astonishingly (and surprisingly) good. Others serve only to help identify the species. Either way it gives me a reason to go along with her and share in the joy of seeing the beauty in the world.
