Went to Karl’s platz where we took the ticket for the Karl’s kirche and opted for the ticket to the top. The lift is this steel structure in the middle of the church and quite out of place – but they have been renovating and have made use of the renovation structure for the tourists. It was a lift half way and then stairs. I have climbed many buildings in Europe, many higher than this one, but this one is the first that I have felt like it could collapse under me at any minute. Scary. But we made it up and back safely. Then into town for the walking tour. Today has been the coldest and wettest day so far, and Charles our guide made it very interesting but by the end we were much better informed, but frozen. Went home and dried off and then headed to Schoenbrun Palace, the summer residence of the Hapsburgs. We had the tour with an audio guide – these people had more money that was good for them! After the tour we were ready for our dinner and performance at the Palace. Had a nice dinner with our first real apple strudel for the trip. The concert was in the Orangerie of the Palace where they have an orchestra who performed Mozart and Strauss. They were supported by two opera singers and two ballet dancers. It was an excellent show made better by the conductor involving the audience
