Got up early and had breakfast provided before heading off to the Doge's palace. The entry was expensive but worth it. As well as paintings, statues and frescos the had a huge display of armoury and we learnt a lot about the judicial system and got to go thought the bridge of sighs to the prisons. Really interesting. We then managed to score a free water taxi to Murano, the island famous for glass. Standing up in the back on the ride over, I felt a bit like I was in a James Bond movie! We got a glass blowing display and a tour of a glass museum (and of course got myself a glass penguin) before coming back to the main island via the ferry and the Rialto bridge and then going to the top of Campanile di San Marco for a great view of the city. IC great to finally see an appreciation of Aussie culture here, although I am surprised how they have made it blend in as if it has been here for hundreds of years. I am referring of course to the seldom mentioned, but clearly should be more famous, statue of St. Steve of Irwin. See photo for confirmation.
