Paris-Nord

FRANCE | Thursday, 22 January 2009 | Views [392]

The train trip from Bordeaux to Paris was a winter wonderland with so much snow covering the fields and houses.Met a girl on the train who was an expat from Sydney but whos friend lives in the street behind us in Mornington..small world.

Nord is a suburb couple of train stops from the centre of town.It is also freezing with snow on the ground.

We took the hop/on/off bus and travelled down Avenue Champs-Elysees and past the Arch De Trompe. We got off at the Louvre which I am sure every one knows is one of the richest museums in the world. The paintings, sculpures and objects of art from the middle ages and Renaissance and so much more.

I particularly like the paintings of Paul Delaroche(1797-1856) one which was of Napolean in the French Alps.

Of course there was Mona..which had a huge crowd around her. A lot smaller painting than I thought.

Ruben(granson) even has a room there called Rubens room named after someone called Rubens!

We spent most of the day there and still couldn't see everything. The Pyramid .....yes the one used in the film The Da Vinci Code ...was really amazing.

Took a cruise on the Seine cruising past most a few more places. Went to the Eiffel Tower twice hoping to go up and check the view but both times it was covered in low clouds and a que of about and 1 1/2 hour wait and as it was minus one with snow on the ground we gave queing a miss.

Went out to the town of Reims which is in the champagne region. Which is also were all apart from two of the French Kings have had their coronations in the Catherdal there.

Paris is on the list as a warmer weather revisit.
