First World Troubles

UNITED KINGDOM | Tuesday, 19 May 2015 | Views [270] | Comments [1]

Not everything is perfect here traveling. While these are admittedly problems others may want to have-they start to bug me a little.

1. Stuff left at home-I have a pair of new shoes-but they are at home. My old shoes here are getting holes in them, plus I have a dental nightguard at home-so my teeth are once again griding against each other. I will have to sort that out when I Get home (and get back to work so I have dental insurance).

2. endless brochures/maps/tickets,etc. I have accumulated endless maps/brochures/tickets from trams in other  cities, etc. I keep taking when I find something useless. Now it is a disoragnized mess.

3. Laundry. I have been doing my laundry in the sink but this is not the same as a laundry matt. Right now I am being ripped off to about $5.00 just to wash (not dry) my sweatshirt-which is too  think to wash in the sink. But my pants, undies, etc have been washed in the sink using shampoo as detergent.

4. Museum Fatigue-I have seen a lot which is nice.  But after seeing the 17th red uniform for the British second class sargent from 1815-1819, dealing with other tourists in six different lanugages taking pictures and pressing 27 on an audio program headset to listen to this, it gets tiring.

5. Food: The Brits aren't known for food. I have had lots of fish and chips, but that isn't the healthiest. There are many Thai/Chinese/Italian places, but these are expensive. As mentioned, I can get food at a British Supermarket chain called Sainsbury which is very good and inexpensive-but I have to find a place to eat it-which isn't easy as I dont' want to eat in my hotel-and often times it is raining out.

6. Loneliness-I am ok being alone-but truth be told I am not alone as a college student with other students or alone working while I know many others are doing the same thing working-I am alone travelling in my mid-40's when most are raising families, or doing something the has income coming in.

7. An ever-increase luggage. My bag keeps getting harder to close. I am not buying any large momentos-but even a small bag with a bookmark and couple of pens add to the luggage which I need to carry when checking in/checking out.

8. the future-I have to get back to work eventually
