Mexico Continued - Merida

MEXICO | Saturday, 4 October 2008 | Views [384]

Merida is an unexpected stop, we had hoped to get the connecting bus from Palenque to Chichen Itza, but we arrived in Merida hours after the last bus to Chicken Itza had left. The bus ride to Merida was great flat roads from the jungle into the city fab.  The city itself is beautiful, great architecture once again.  When we arrived in the town we walked from the bus station to the hostel, which was a killer as it was sooooo hot.

The hostel itself is very nice, clean and a helpful Mexican lad on the reception.  We are soon off investigating the city, as we are hungry dinner is first thought, we are given directions into the restaurant section of the city.  It is very neat, tidy and clean, especially in comprison to the rest of Mexico.  We stumble across a lovely restaurant that is opposite the cathedral, it is a beautiful resturant situated in a very old building with all the old cornices and wood work etc including a beautiful painting on the wall.  We sit in the balcony which overlooks the cathedral and square a beautiful view.  We oder the fish platter and a bottle of Mexican wine and we share a piece of chocolate cake for pudding.  A wonderful meal.  While eating our meal we watched a local wedding, getting married at 8pm on a Saturday night !!!

Glad we had to stop here.
