Hello
New York - Ekk
We spent the first two nights in Brooklyn, near Queens, it was incredible, straight out of a gang movie. Very intimidating place. Even the KFC has bullet proof screens protecting the staff !
All the cars drive pass they are supped up and highly polished playing music so load that it makes your head vibrate, also sets off the car alarms of parked cars. Also the people are very divided showing that are Jamacian/Americans, Spanish/Americans etc. People have flags on their cars and on themselves. Also all the houses have porches that are fenced in with big iron security bars.
The hostel we stayed in was YMCA, basically a homeless persons hostel, not a backpackers hostel, scary, with very odd people as well. Our room was so small there wasn't room for a cat let alone swinging it.
Next we moved to Harlem, slightly less scary, but still miles away from English streets, even those of London are nothing in comparsion. From here we saw all the sights, Empire State building, Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Bloomingdales, M&Ms store, Time Square.
New York subway system is probably the most confusing in the world, but we managed to get by. Out hostel street had 4 subway stations alone, we never knew which one we would get off at.
