Dallas and it's most important moment in history

USA | Tuesday, 28 July 2009 | Views [481]

Finally dragged my backside out of the hostel and into downtown Dallas.

First priority was the visitor centre to find out what to do follwed swiftly by the post office.  Then the sightseeing began.

Went to the chase building observation deck - amazing views and a lovely little fountain garden.  Then to the cathedral across the road which had stunning stained glass windows, next was the sculpture garden and the Crowe collection Asian Museum with some beautiful sculptures and delicate carved snuff bottles.  From ther food and a drink were in order but couldn't stop for long as the JFK museum was calling.  It was truly amazing, really well done with a great audio tour and I was lucky cos every Tuesday after 2pm in July and August it is half price. I knew quite a bit about what happened and all the conspiracy stuff but it was still really interesting to see it all broken down step by step and you can easily spend a couple of hours there, just a shame you can't take any photos.  Oh and I shed a couple of tears cos whenever I think about what the world lost when JFK was shot it makes me cry (what an old softy!)

Back to the hostel and getting ready for a night in Billy Bob's in Fort Worth - the biggest Honky Tonk joint in the world! Heading out with Dave, Chris and John - well we mised the first train so finally caught one at 9.30 - Fort Worth was deserted!  especially Billy Bob's (well I guess it is a Tuesday) and the closed not long after 11pm But we stumbled across a place called the Basement which had live music and a lot more going on.  Ended up having ridiculous shots, first was quite normal, Southern Comfort, then a peppermint dentists mouthwash and finally Tequila that tasted like tabasco - all that on top of too many beers, tomorrow cannot be good. Well they finally chucked us out too and then we were in a deserted town with no taxi but two young guys who were completely off their faces offering to take us for breakfast and give us a lift back to the hosetl - absolutely no chance.  We managed to get a guy from the bar to call a cab and paid a small fortune but made it home by 3.30 in the morning - joy oh joy.  Dave is catching a flight at 8.30 am so he was staying up so I kept him company for a bit but finally at about 4.15 I had to crash
