Day Eleven Fredericton to Quebec City

Another day, another long journey. This time from Fredericton to Quebec City, about a 5 hour drive. This trip however was too be broken up by two exciting events, but I’m getting ahead of myself.

Leaving the provincial capital of New Brunswick behind, we headed off to Quebec, first breaking our trip at Hartland so we could drive across the world’s longest covered bridge. Then for a stop at the Grand falls on the Saint John River and our first bit of excitement; zip lining across the gorge. Zip lining is where you are suspended below a cable and zoom from one end to the other. This line went one way across the gorge and you come back via another line. Once I saw it, it was a definite must do. Natasha was up for it at first but then opted out, but what surprised Chelle and I the most was that Ryan wanted to do it, even though he has developed a bit of a phobia for bridges and structures or heights with open guard rails. The trip across is only short, but what a buzz as you are dangling 30-40 metres above the gorge. Ryan had a huge grin on his face when he’d completed it and now reckons he’s over his worry of bridges. Of course once we had completed it and she had watched us Natasha decided she wanted to have a go, but we told her she now has to wait for the next opportunity.

With that fun behind us and with Michelle behind the wheel we drove into the province of Quebec and towards some very menacing clouds. The weather hit us not much further down the road and we got to experience a real North American storm cell. From travelling at 100 kph Chelle was reduced to travelling at 5 kph and then having to stop when the wipers gave up the ghost and visibility was reduced to zero. We had wind, driving rain, hail and bits of shrubbery all buffeting the car all we were missing was the tornado and I reckon if the wind had been another knot or two stronger we would have had one of those also. Anyway after an interesting 10 minutes or so we drove out of it. Though we did drive in and out of squalls for the rest of the trip to Quebec City, we made it safely to our hotel late in the afternoon and are looking forward to the next couple of days sightseeing.
