At 40-something I guess I've left it too late for a Gap Year. Fortunately, however, I discovered that its possible to have similar adventures under the title of a 'Career Break' and so that is what I am doing.
Emptying my life of possessions, job and home turned out to be quite a challenge. I suppose society leads us into thinking that we need the latest gadget or must upgrade as new technology becomes available. Once the process is underway, it definitely becomes easier. Eventually, and with just a few bits in storage, the hardest part of all is saying goodbye to family and friends.
My journey starts with a return to Africa, the continent of my childhood. I have returned far too infrequently over the years, but at this point in my life I feel the need to go back to the beginning as it were.....
