the southern terminus

Last week, my mom, sister and I visited the southern terminus of the PCT. It is located in Campo, literally 10 feet from the Mexican border fence. We followed a few dirt roads before we made it there and as we stood there at the start of the trail the whole thing seemed that much more real to me. It was somewhat magical for me. I'll be back there a month from tomorrow.

I have been busily checking off items on my last minute PCT to-do list. I have all of my 11 resupply boxes filled with dried foods, gorp, and energy bars. I plan to have a box sent about every two weeks and will buy the rest of my food along the way. I finally decided on a backpack. I already own about 7 packs but they are different sizes and I felt I needed to get just the right size for this hike. My Dirty Girl Gaiters just arrived in the mail. This seems to be one of the PCT fad items. They are crazy colored gaiters meant for the sandy sections. I read the PCT list discussions on a daily basis, hoping to glean any wisdom I can before the start of the trail.

It's the countdown now!
