Well, This was the last destination of my week and half vacation of the North Island for the April mid-semester break.  Sorry for putting this last blog up so late, and all the others too I might add.  Time sure does get away from me! Auckland. The ... Read more >

Rotorua

Sunday, 18 May 2008 | Views [627]

A town I'm glad I visited once. Rotorua means 'two lakes' in te reo Maori and I took a short walk around one of the lake edges-not a pleasant smell. Rotorua is known for its geological activity and high population of Maori. It almost always smells ... Read more >

Taupo

Yet another bus ride! This time I went from the Hawke's Bay region to the center of the North Island and NZ's largest lake, Lake Taupo. As soon as I hopped off the bus, I booked a ride on the Ernest Kemp, a replica tugboat-like vessel. I saw the lush ... Read more >

Napier

Tuesday, 13 May 2008 | Views [477]

On the bus ride to Napier, I enjoyed a kiwiana shake (kiwi & banana) at one of the pit stops, prayed that the bus wouldn't break down as the gears made horrible noises going uphill, and had a enlightening conversation with one of the locals.  I ... Read more >

At the conclusion of my field trip in Marlborough, I hopped on a bus (the fare was $1 thanks to nakedbus.com, and no you don't have to be naked to be on it!)to Picton where I would hop a ferry to Wellington.  I was so excited to be on a ferry again &... Read more >

Wildfoods Festival in Hokitika

Tuesday, 25 Mar 2008 | Views [854]

The festival wasn't the only thing wild about this trip! My new friends from California and I packed ourselves into a rental car option called "el cheapo" (gives you an idea of what it was like-but it wasn't too bad) and headed over the Southern Alps ... Read more >

I Made It!

Sunday, 17 Feb 2008 | Views [489]

Finally got here at Lincoln University safe & sound.  The plane trips were long but worth it!  Some of the vegetation here is unusual.  There are green plants everywhere!  It reminds me of the pacific northwest a bit.  Will post pictures soon.
