Gum trees on the banks of the Macintyre River.

Gum trees on the banks of the Macintyre River.

The change in environment from Tallebudgera by the sea to the valleys and hills around Nerang and Canungra, to rainforest and mountains through Cunningham's Gap to the flatter farmland around Goondiwindi is almost a shock to the system. Queensland is a large and diverse state and I shall be very sorry to leave it tomorrow especially as I feel we have only just sratched the surface of what there is to see and do here. This morning when we were trying to hitch up the van showers of rain kept passing through from time to time but as we drove west the weather cleared and once again we had bright blue skies even if covered in places with fluffy cotton wool clouds. When we arrived at Goondiwindi we went for a walk along the bank of the Macintyre River to look at a memorial to the town's famous grey horse, Gunsynd, which won many races in the early 1970s. Tomorrow we head for Dubbo.
