Day 5
AUSTRALIA | Monday, 20 June 2011 | Views [268]
Yalara - Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) Drove out to Kata Tjuta this morning with the intention of walking the Valley of the Winds walk. We stopped at the viewing area on the the way which gave a magnificent view and the opportunity to see some of the native plants close up. There was a small grass like plant with masses of red, trumpet shaped flowers at their base and also a grevillea with very large yellow flowers. We decided that we did not want to complete the whole loop of the Valley of the Winds walk so we went to the first lookout and then did the Walpa Gorge walk. This was partly reminiscing as we did this walk back in 1972 and enjoyed it then and we did again today. Great, impressive rocks with a small stream and some rock pools which meant trees and bushes growing out of the rocks. We then drove out to the sunrise viewing area where we could see both Uluru and Kata Tjuta.
