Onward to the beach

We made our way yesterday via bus from our jungle lodge, The Trek Stop, all the way to Placencia. The folks on all of the buses were most helpful and did what they could to make sure we got off on the right stop and caught the right bus to placencia. that was really great cause we had 3 different buses to catch. Once here we stashed our stuff at our hotel the West wind, it is right on the beach and George and Lisa are great hosts. Lisa worked really hard to make sure our room is just right! she gave us all of the helpful info on how to sign up with tours and who to go with. Today we jumped on the tour to the Gladden spit and Silk caye. Our tour guide, Bobo out of Eagle tours was really laid back and happy to go snorkeling in the water with us, he knows all the fish and serves a great lunch too! After lunch we stopped at another spot and swam with the logger head turtles and a rather large sting ray. The barb on the ray was at least 3 feet long. It was a smooth day on the sea and really a delight to swim at our leisure with the turles and the ray. we headed back to the hotel and a great meal at OMar's in town. I ate my first Baracuda better than shark and with a little creole spice to it. the night is warm with little breeze but the sky is full of stars that we can see due to little if any ambient light. I can't remember the last time I have seen so many stars out in the night sky. The people here in Placencia have a real laid back feeling and are really more friendly than the others we have met. Times are hard here but there are a few tourists. THe westview is a small hotel which is great because it makes you feel like you are right at home, all the neighbors check in with each other and they are anxious to share the stories of the day.
