Angkor Wat

CAMBODIA | Monday, 1 March 2010 | Views [362]

Over the weekend I headed to Angkor Wat park, though only very briefly to Angkor Wat it self. We caught a Tuk Tuk and got driven to various temples over the two days. I think in total we got approximately 14 temple hours under our belts. There seems to be a phrase around here people use about being "templed" out. I think I'm now beginning to realise what this actually means.

The temples are a fair distance apart from each other so you have to drive between, and because there were built at different times, the ones I saw were pretty different from each other.

Some have very, very steep staircases while others like Ta Prohm from tomb raider fame are totally overgrown, with trees engulfing the walls. Apparently most the temples were found in this state, but were cleaned up. Ta Prohm was left as an example of how they were found.

It cost $40 for a 3 dy ticket, lasting for 7 days. I'll probably go just to Angkor Wat it self at some point this week. This one is about as big as wembley so just dedicating one trip to it on its own can probably be jutified. Mind you after that I think I'll not be hunting for too many more temples
