On Tuesday morning I visited the biggest aquarium in South East Asia, Siam Ocean World in the huge Paragon Plaza in Bangkok. It was about 11 quid for entry which included a drink, 4-d film and a glass bottomed boat ride over the main aquarium.
The exhibits were pretty good for the most part, although I can be highly critical being a self confessed tropical fish geek!
The 6 meter deep reef tank was really good and featured some huge batfish and one large moray eel that was storming around in there at one point, scattering fish as he went.
They had some really nice turtles in a good sized tank, and the main aquarium was mahuuusive, containing various shark species. It was too difficult to photograph the best of the sharks though, the black tipped reef shark, they move too fast!
This is a shot that came out quite well of one of my fav tropical marine fish, the copperband butterfly.
I didn't take the glass bottomed boat ride, it looked crap and the 4-d cinema was mildly amusing, especially as one kid had to be escorted out screaming in terror, ha ha! ;) It wasn't as good as the 4-d theatre in LA at Universal studios, where they had actors running out of the 'movie' into the stands firing weapons etc!! 8)
After that I went back to the cinema agin and saw Atonement, which was pretty good. It wasn't as good as the cinema though, which only had about 30 seats max and they were all luxury leather reclining arm chairs, with electric controls and pillows and blankets! One bloke at the rear of the room was so comfy I could hear him snoring, Lol!
They should introduce these in the UK, although I can imagine what some people would get up to in them... ;)
