Balaton - Heviz & Keszthely

22nd July

Heviz Lake Thermal Bath. Water flows into this lake at about 410L/sec, refilling it every 3 days. The hot spring is 40m deep in the lake & shoots out at 40*. Average depth is about 2-3m deep, but there is a 38m deep area. The swimming temp is 36-38 in summer & 24-26 in winter, when it is protected by a 2m think steam barrier, preventing any freezing. The water is carbonic (slowly makes little bubbles on you) and slightly radioactive. It is used medicaly to help recover from muscle problems, though it says avoid if you have any cancer problems. It was a very enjoyable lake & the blue lines you see above the water are to help people who can not swim, or just for a rest.

When you go swimming with something silver on it is coated by another metal. This came as a total surprise as there is no signs warning this. But it can be scrubbed off with toothpaste or rubs off within a few days.

Festetics Manor is a very stately home, which after coming into possession by the govenment is now a museum dedicate to its former residents. Being so rich Lord Festetics traveled to world collecting rarities & hunting (got at least one of everything). Its an extravegant house and has many fine porcelan & wooden carved objects. Our favorite room though, would have to be the library.

Nice selection isn't it? and a wuld be a great place to lounge.

This parish church also in Keszthely began construction in 1368.
