A brilliant "clock" created hundreds (maybe even thousands?) years ago that told both time and season by the shadow cast by the rod based on the sun's position. It's on the equator, and this side faces the Northern Hemisphere. Here it tells us the time is around 3:20 (where shadow is) and it's before summer solstice (because this side is facing the sun).
