Out and about in Brizzie

Slainte:  So we all know St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated all over the world but unfortunately when you’re in Queensland you don’t get the 17th off work so in true Irish style there’s a whole weekend dedicated to the cause instead plus everyone mobbing the Irish pubs after work on the 17th.  Saturday morning we headed down to watch the Paddies parade trawl its way through the streets of Brisbane.  There was a tent waiting at the finish line with a free beer for everyone who’d taken part in the parade.  I think we might have to take part next year if not only to free the guilt of starting to drink at 11 in the morning!!  There was a fantastic stage set up with Irish dancers and live music where we met a crew of Irish and off to Irish Murphy’s pub we went.  The craic agus ceoil was mighty.  At one stage there was even a whole pipe band playing inside the pub.  It’s was madness.  Check out the pics.  Sunday then we caught a lift out to the GAA grounds with a few we’d met the day before.  Fair play to the lads who represented by turning out to play football and hurling that day.  There was a few weary heads around.  Great day had by all though.

Storey!:  After a long day’s work we decided to take a stroll along the banks of the Brisbane river to admire Brizzie in all its glittering night time glory.  We stopped by the dome shaped Customs House to watch the traffic cross a lit up Storey Bridge.  The weather was mild and fresh like a summer’s night at home.

Spectacular View:  If you have a few hours to spend around Brisbane hop on the bus out to Mount Coot-tha.  The lookout point offers panoramic views of Brisbane city and beyond.  It was a lovely afternoon and a great chance to catch a few nice snaps.  There is a variety of bush trails out there that you can take too so we opted for the shortest one – 1.5km down to JC Slaughter Falls near the Aboriginal art trail.  They are not so much falls than a trickle of water but the walk was lovely none the less.  It was a great way to get some fresh forest air into our lungs and stretch out the legs.
