And we are off again; post mission leave. Again! Tim just got back from 11 weeks in the desert. Time for another adventure. Westward bound.
The week leading up to our holiday was filled with drama, suicide and all the usual stress that makes time off so rewarding. Friday afternoon could not have come fast enough.
We set out early, putting many miles behind us and made our first stop at the King George Tavern, Manor Saskatchewan. We had a great, long overdue, visit with my uncle Serge and aunt Diane. We had a very delicious moose stew and potato dinner rolls.
After a great sleep in a very fancy camper trailer, we set out across the long and flat prairies. Did I mention the long and flat! There were some picturesque scenes, but for the most part we were happy to arrive in Calgary.
We could not do a west coast trip without a stop to see Kim and Scott and enjoy some quality time with their beautiful 3 kids, Dougie, Connie and Collin. Their home is nestled in the Rocky foothills and the fall colours were in full effect. We enjoyed a great dinner and campfire!
We only missed a winter storm by one day, and we were happy to have only seen the snow covered on the news, rather than the roads.
The Rockies were cool, but road conditions were good. We stopped at beautiful Lake Louise.
We always heard that the Canadian Rockies are so much prettier and although they are pretty, they are not that much nicer than Colorado or Utah; just a bit different. We definitely did not enjoy the single lane highways and slow drivers.
Thankfully we had only scheduled a short day and arrived in Revelstoke by 3pm. After a quick refresh at the hotel, we set out for a beer and plate of fried pickles. I saw a legion and totally wanted to go, unfortunately it was closed. We decided on Chubby Funsters; the beer was exceptionally good, pickles were good, not amazing.
We woke early and progressed across the remainder of the mountains; stopped in Merrit for a picnic lunch.
We arrived in Abbotsford in the early evening, enjoyed some good Indian food and called it an early night. Time to slow down and breath a bit before we start the truly busy touristy adventures.
