Relaxing at the Bay and Fish Fry

USA | Monday, 9 May 2016 | Views [239]

If you have ever taken a long holiday – heck, even some short holidays, if you are moving a wall to a bathroom or lifting a shed to install a new floor – you know that sometimes you feel like you need a holiday from your holiday. Today we felt like that and we planned nothing; just to relax. We spent most the morning just chilling in the hotel, fixing the blog, enjoying coffee and watching TV.

At around 11:00 we decided to check out Morro Bay. We already experienced the ocean front, but the vibrant little tourist town apparently had fresh seafood and an interesting downtown.

We packed a bag and set out. It was quite cool today, shorts and sandles but long sleeves. The tide was out and we walked along the lower part of the beach. Even though it was cool, the sun was warm and the area is incredibly relaxing.

I made myself a friend while Tim was off in the restroom, he almost ate out of my hand.

We arrived to the bay and were greeted by a family of sea otters. They were just there in the water relaxing on their backs. We, of course, didn’t bring our large camera, just the cell. After watching the otters cleaning and playing with their babies, we decided to move on.

The town was as cute as we expected. It was a bit touristy, but you could tell there was authentic fishing boats, and markets. We were interested in buying some gifts for friends and family, going shop to shop we were happy that the prices seemed to be frozen in time.

One of our goals was to find some seafood and although there are plenty of shops, Tim had his mind on Giovanni's. He saw it on a YouTube video and thought the prices were good. I'm not a huge seafood fan, but agreed to fish and chips with a pitcher of beer. Wow, it was amazing! There was something about eating it with the view, and the smell of the sea.

We bought too much stuff, so the walk back to the hotel seems a bit long. We took for granted that it was a cool day and Tim's neck was sunburned from the three or so hour outing. We took a nap and basically relaxed for the rest of the day.

Oh yeah, going up the pacific we have resolved to try sour dough bread everywhere we stop. The artisan one we got today was $2 and wow, sour! It was good, but we usually have it with cheese fondue; just butter and cheese slices was a bit different. We didn’t eat it at the pier, but enjoyed it in the hotel as our dinner.
