a light in Cambodia

traffic light trees

The city of Phnom Penh may not be known for its beauty, being a growing city with few trees or natural elements remaining, but one thing I have been observing is the sprouting of new traffic lights across my end of town! It is surreal to be just driving home from work one day to notice new metal giants mounted on the corners of a busy intersection that certainly weren't there in the morning.

The intersection in question at a quiet time of day.

Next step might be turning them on, but probably that takes a bit longer than the actual assembling of our new intersection additions.

Who knows I might be able to lay aside my mantra of "be aggressive, be be aggressive" as I bravely drive (and pray) my way across the busy intersection of this city. But that would also mean teaching the locals that these flashing poles are meant for order and not for meer guidelines for us on the road. One step at a time I guess.
