Experienced some of the common joys of Phnom Penh life yesterday. Was sitting in my favourite café, I came wanting to try out the free wifi, but alas no electricity. The steps up to the second floor of the café were bordered by tea lights as patrons ate or drank by candlelight or just sat in the dark.
That day was also the first day for my tummy to feel a bit uneasy. Nothing major, but it was making its existence known. You need to be careful what you eat and drink, and since my stomach is a new comer here extra care is needed.
My key, to get through the gate to where I am currently staying, was being a bit funny today too. Took a while to slip into the lock. Now having your Cambodian landlady look on as you struggle with the thing and neither of you can understand the other is interesting. I feel like a complete fool everytime I see her as she witnesses the daily fumbles of the crazy foreigner.
This is when it is time to make a choice – will I let these little things weigh me down and stop me from enjoying life here. I am having many fun times hanging out with friends and experiencing things other can only imagine. Guess I need to remember the reason why I have been placed where I am rather than the uncomfortable things I may experience along the way.
So stomach how about another ice coffee (or maybe it’s time for lemonade) as we settle into our new life here together.
