Well Wired Transportation

SPAIN | Wednesday, 12 September 2007 | Views [789]

Europe is well established with transportation infrastructure, and there are big lessons to be taken from Europe for the states.  Especially in San Diego, where the train runs north to south, and let's you off at stops with no means of getting to critical points you need to access even just a short distance from the train line.  The metro and bus lines in Madrid and Barcelona are efficient and extensive.  You can get from the metro to the airport and the bus station easily, and it's very inexpensive.  We have been ever so impressed with the well oiled and maintained systems here.  Aside from having some challenges as we were more remote - i.e. Coastal regions of Portugal's West Coast, and Tarifa, where you really need a car to get around, the public transportation system and network here rocks.  Even when we arrived at 1:00 a.m., to Madrid from our bus ride, there was a ticket agent in the information booth, friendly and helpful at that strange hour of the morning.  A big plus to traveling in Europe, and we'll soon really miss it, as we venture onto our next region - Central America, tomorrow.
