Downsized in Melbourne

AUSTRALIA | Monday, 29 January 2007 | Views [705]

Life on the road meets reality for us today in our first hostel accommodation... cubicle room, no ventilation, and a sink to boot!  We need to quickly transition to shared en suites (bathroom/shower) and rooms just big enough to fit a bed... and this fabulous room set us back $80 AUD.  Ouch, that leaves about $20 for the ride from the airport and dinner... well, I guess dinner will have to be a block of cheese and rice crackers tonight, as we splurged on a cool beer at the local watering hole at the beach earlier.

Our transition is hitting us like a brick wall... hard to not be able to have that nice meal out, or a nice bottle of wine each night with dinner... let alone a comfortable room - and this is the luxurious end of the hosteling scene!
