If It Was Good Enough For Ben Franklin, It's Good Enough For Me!

We visited St. Goustan today. One of its claims to fame is that Ben Franklin landed there during a bad storm. He was on his way to Nantes but the weather was so awful, the ship had to put in at St. Goustan instead. He landed in December of 1776 and after spending the night there, he made his way by coach to Nantes. His mission was to get the French to help our new country win its independence from Great Britain! And, as you know, he was successful!

On Sunday morning, we decided to have a late breakfast at St. Goustan by the water and in sight of its other claim to fame, the stone bridge that was built in the early 1300's and is still in use. But, we didn't eat just anywhere. We chose the very restaurant where Ben Franklin spent the night! It was an inn then as well as a bar. Now, they just serve light meals and a variety of different crepes. Here's a real cultural/custom difference between the States and France. The resto didn't start serving food until about noon. It was only possible to get a drink before then. However, it is considered perfectly acceptable to bring in food from another food serving establishment like a bakery or biscuiterie as long as the place you are taking it to, doesn't serve the same thing. So, we purchased super fancy "goodies" at an establishment across the river and then returned to the "Franklin" (now called La Yech)  for large, steaming cups of delicious "cafe au lait".
