One of the main events of this summer's gathering of “2016 Euro-Pride” is an 80 float parade on one of the main canals. We were out for our morning walk and as we walked down one of our favorite little streets, we noticed that huge crowds of people were gathering along one of the canals and its bridges as far as the eye could see.
There were also lots of visible security guards and an unbelievable display of decorations strung along the streets, from lamp posts and store windows. But, perhaps most impressive were the “get-ups” that some of the supporters were wearing. Although it was only around 10:30 and the parade didn't start until 2 pm, people were staking out their viewing positions and enjoying the friendly atmosphere.
We continued our walk, went home and returned when the parade got underway. Although we had to juggle for a position along the canal, we were able to view all the floats that came by. Each one had a different theme and was accompanied by a live band or canned music and lots of participants on the float itself.
It was a perfect day and it seemed that all of Amsterdam had turned out to enjoy the entertainment and to wish the revelers well.
Many colorful photos in the gallery.
