Elk are like massive deer, and, at this time of the year, are growing back their antlers which are covered in velvet. They graze around in the trees and meadows. My favourite elk experience happened when we were out of a horse ride in the Rocky Mountains. We came down into a valley where a herd of bachelor elk were hanging out - lying and standing in the meadow grazing and chewing cud. They were not phased in the slightest as we rode past, just yards away from them. In the background, snowy peaks; in the foreground, wildflowers. My horse was ace too!
