Thai for Christmas!

THAILAND | Friday, 29 December 2006 | Views [554]

Heya Santa's Little Helpers,

What a couple of crazy weeks it has been. After finishing school on the 12th I spent the next two weeks packing and saying goodbyes so that by the time Christmas Eve morning came I was ready for a holiday!! It took the best part of 14 hours to get to Thailand, but it was worth the wait. I went via Singapore - awesome airport that includes free foot massages!! - then to Koh Samui. I arrived at 11pm and headed straight out to meet the boys, Jake, Fowler and Daddy G. They are mates from cricket and they were all with me in Bali last year. Jake and Fowler are my age and Daddy G is 42, but 25 at heart! Where else would we meet but a bar full of go-go girls!!

Thailand is a crazy place: cheap beer, cheaper food and even cheaper women hahaha. After a night of boozing and meeting heaps of random people, we spent Christmas Day riding around  on $8 a day scooters and recovering from major hangovers! The scooters are fantastic!! I have never ridden one before but they are awesome. They go pretty quick, though in most places you only do 40km, as the roads are fairly busy. One of the boys got his bike up to 115km but I was happy at a more moderate 75km. The drivers here are pretty crazy, no road rules and horns constantly being honked. They don't really believe in lanes and there are only about three traffic lights on the whole island! Having said that we never really felt in danger. I did freak out a little when I read the paper on New Years Day and it said there had been 275 road deaths in Thailand on New Years Eve!!! It takes Perth two years to get that many!

Aside from scooters, our days were spent on the beach, boozing or getting $10 massages. I had one nearly every day and they are awesome. Things are a little bit more expensive here than in Bali, but you don't get hassled as much and the quality of goods and services is a lot better. The people are also much more friendly. The go-go girls are EVERYWHERE and there is heaps of dodgy old dudes hanging out with Thai girls that are young enough to be their great grand daughters! Most of the time the girls don't hassle you, except when they want to play connect four, I swear they are obsessed with that game!

Anyways, hope you all had a great Xmas and New Year.

Keep smiling, Ben.
