Barbers of India
he photos in this Journal are from a recent trip to India where I focused on Barbers. I photographed 68 barbers from Kashmir in the north to as far as Mumbai. The choice to do barbers was simply a fascination with humans love of hair and my own hair loss.
My Scholarship entry - A portrait of the Indian Barber

I grew up in New Zealand where you can lose yourself in adventure and solitude from your doorstep. But the world is far greater than the landscapes of my small island on the edge of the world. The world is alive with a huge heaving lung of millions of species and 7 billion human souls, all with their own unique stories and inspiration. It is my natural intrigue and intuition that drives me to travel. The adrenalin of travel rushes through me and feeds my zest for life. My eyes bulge at the wonderment of the earth and its cultures. I grasp onto my ancient nomadic instinct from the African savannah and like those early humans chasing down antelope with their bare feet I too am chasing something, that captivating visual story, and in that 250th of a second all my passions combine; people, places and photography. Humans intrigue me, we all share a common theme, we are weird and wonderful, passionate and stubborn but the drivers and actions that display these traits are different all around the world. My goal is to travel to the reaches of the world for National Geographic furthering my understanding and knowledge of unknown cultures while documenting it to give others the same insight.
