Barbers of India
he photos in this Journal are from a recent trip to India where I focused on Barbers. I photographed 68 barbers from Kashmir in the north to as far as Mumbai. The choice to do barbers was simply a fascination with humans love of hair and my own hair loss.
About barber
I am a kiwi with an obsession for all things visual. The first time I remember picking up a camera and looking through the lens was when I was five driving with my mum down a tree flanked street in my home town of Christchurch. I stared down the lens zooming in and out creating what is commonly known as trumpeting. It was the most amazing thing I had ever experienced! I was distorting reality and slowing down time through that very lens, I was hooked. Ever since, I have been travelling locally and abroad to capture things that I see unfolding in front of me, distorting these realities into my own subjective image through something as simple as cropping or composition. That is the beauty of photography, brilliantly simple but infinitely powerful.
