    Barbers of India he photos in this Journal are from a recent trip to India where I focused on Barbers. I photographed 68 barbers from Kashmir in the north to as far as Mumbai. The choice to do barbers was simply a fascination with humans love of hair and my own hair loss.

    A young barber freshly shaves a wiser yet trusting customer as the medley of mirrors battle for reflections. Young barbers are common in India and the trade is seen as a sociable and respectable position among India's classes. Views[1466] The The street is a major place of commerce throughout India and it is not just unique to merchants. Barbers cluster in their respective spots along alleys, streets and highways. Their barber chairs accommodate their patrons and human hair meets dry earth throughout the day. Views[1150] Rustic charm meets a brand new hair style as this barber grooms his subject with the precision of a surgeon. Huts like this are a common place for barbers and often a community of five or six barbers huts can be seen, with all the barbers sharing banter and trade between them. Views[1909] On the road to Agra we stopped to interrupt this barber enjoying the afternoon breeze behind his curtain, he calmly and happily obliged to having his portrait taken. Barbers in India exude a sense of calm, a must when wielding a razor sharp cut throat blade. Views[1233]
