No one in Kompong Thom would sell us a bus ticket, telling us to just turn up in the morning and they would wave down a bus and get us on!! Oh yeah??!!??
The next morning they say "Why did'nt you buy a ticket yesterday"!! Oh great!!!
A few bus's go past and a few stop but all are full. We are not told that it is the last day of Pchum Ben and everyone is going back to the city to start work on monday, oh great!!!! At this stage we did think that a cushion on the steps of the bus were looking good!
But the lovely Mr Kong Yeourn has a friend! who has a car! Has'nt every damn Cambodian have a friend who has a car or an Aunty or Uncle or cousin that can help you! The answer to this is YES. So we bargain for the price of the car and after it has made it's delivery of noodles to the market we are Phnom Penh bound! $45 for a three and a half hour trip, normally $40 i'm told, so we did ok.
The traffic was thick and heavy and the 170 k trip took longer because of this, the road was badly pot holed due to the rain and flooding and l have never seen so many over loaded mini bus's in my life! the police would pull them up (they are trying to stop this in this country) but they were just paying the police coffee money and continuing on, as none of them had to unload.
But we make it safely to PP and book into the Hotel Castle.
