The Road Trip Survival Guide for Public Transport

UNITED STATES OUTLYING ISLANDS | Saturday, 25 August 2018 | Views [109]

Not everyone can drive, and not everyone has the money to afford the petrol for a long trip either, which is where coaches, trains, and even planes come in handy. They aren’t, however, known for being the most comfortable experiences out there. That’s why it’s up to you to bring enough provisions and prepare in advance to better your trip. This is particularly important if whatever public transport you are taking is crowded and you are on your own. The more comfortable you are, the more enjoyable you can enjoy the commute:

Have A Stock of Snacks and Drinks

One key rule for food and drinks on public transport is that they should not be hot. The exception, of course, is the customary meals they provide to you on flights. Other than that, hot food smells and can cause a number of side effects that you don’t want to inflict on your fellow passengers. Hot food also tends to be messy on a moving vehicle, so save yourself the struggle and bring ready to eat healthy foods and snacks for your trip. Great items to bring are not pitted fruit, protein bars, and sandwiches. Try to refrain from bringing chips, as they can be addictive to eat and cause digestive issues down the line.

Create the Ultimate Playlist

If you know you are going on a long trip beforehand, try to make a few custom playlists to help you enjoy the trip. This applies to both music and podcasts. Or, alternatively, you could create mood podcasts. Say you are stuck in traffic and start to feel anxious or annoyed, you could then switch from your travel playlist to a calming playlist to help you wait it out. Music can help you control your moods and make any commute more enjoyable, you just have to pick the songs carefully.

Have Fun On Your Phone

Your phone is your lifeline on long trips. That is why you need to either have a portable charger with you, or be near to a working plug. Another way to prepare is by compiling all the fun ways you can stay entertained on your phone. If you are traveling on land, you will have the wealth of the internet at your disposal. You can play online casino games and place bets on sites like Unibet, or you can catch up on social media. If you are traveling without service, then having downloaded entertainment is critical. EBooks, podcasts, videos, and music will be your lifeline.

Bring a Plane Pillow with You

Whether you are on a plane or not, the neck pillows that they offer at airports can be a lifesaver on any type of transportation. This is particularly true if you have been given or have a non-window seat. By bringing a neck pillow or plane pillow, you can enjoy a nice nap.

Your commute from one destination to another does not have to be written off. You are not automatically guaranteed to have a bad time. By preparing in advance and by following this guide, you can enjoy your commutes for what they are – a part of your vacation.
