Day 38 – 8th May 2016 Sunday – Lunch with Dung family

VIETNAM | Monday, 9 May 2016 | Views [396]

Kevin went riding to Marble Mountain while I did some washing and went to the market for eggs and baguettes and to Phil’s to pick up my phone and Kevin’s Tilley hat. After breakfast  I had arranged to meet Tan Vo so I rode the mountain bike there at 9am to have my new bike basket fitted. He was entertaining many family members. Several came out to help Tan and give advise. He used a grinding tool to make the attachment hole bigger and then fitted it and the basket for me. He told me it was very flimsy and that I shouldn't carry beer bottles but beer cans was ok. He asked when I was going to order a bamboo bike? We went over to Dung’s for his family day, the anniversary of his fathers death for lunch. There were 25 people which included 8 house guests, Ann a Canadian lady who has lived here since December. She had stayed at Dung’s before getting a house. We chatted with the guests about HoiAn and living here. Kevin headed off to the football and Dung cornered me and asked if I would help Dram his 15 yo daughters English after she finishes her exams. I said that I would and then Huyen asked about her 5 yo niece sitting in with us. I told her that this wasn't a good idea as they are at different levels and it was best that I do one on one with Dram. All of a sudden I have now committed to Hien, Tri and Dram so I am going to have to tell Graeme Burn I can't help him as I will be too busy. I headed home and watched some of the football. We headed to Purple Lantern at AnBang for dinner with Jane, Nigel and Lisa. We ordered the BBQ beef, beans with garlic and shared pumpkin and fried rice with vegetables. Nigel had bought BYO wine and we drank a bottle and a bit of red. It wasn't too bad. I paid him VND 400k for two bottles. Dinner cost VND 650k for all of us. We all put in VND 150k each. We followed Jane and Nigel to their house and on the way Jane fell flat on her face when she tripped on the footpath. She was up and running again before we could stop the scooter to help her. Their house is quite a modern house set up for Westerners, 3 bedrooms and an upstairs deck for barbecuing. Jane has offered to do a reflexology session with Kevin on his shoulder to try and improve his range of motion. We arranged to do it Tuesday after yoga and my session. We got home about 10pm which is the latest night we have had since arriving in VN.
