Day 22 – 22nd April 2016 Friday – Danang for Drivers Licence

VIETNAM | Saturday, 23 April 2016 | Views [331]

Kevin went riding with Andrew across the new bridge and to Cam Kim, similar to the ride I did yesterday. I did a load of washing, sheets before heading off to Danang in an attempt to get my drivers licence. I am armed with my translation from earlier in the week, 2 passport photos, copies of my passport, my passport and SA drivers licence. It took 40 min to get to 24 Tran Phu, the building that looks like a pineapple, near Mercury Hotel. In I go and within 20 min I have lodged my papers and paid VND 135k and got a receipt with instructions to come back in 7 days. Fantastic. From here I headed to Tran Ke Xuong St where there are a number of bike shops. Bought several lights (front and back) for our bikes. I then went further down Hung Vuong St to Big C shopping centre. I looked at a Bose Bluetooth speaker system for VND 420k  or A$26. which is heaps cheaper than last year in Nha Trang. I have now decided to buy it when in Danang next week. I hit the supermarket for some supplies before hitting KFC where I bought some very delicious egg tarts for VND 45k. I then headed   back to DNG bikes at 42 Dang Thai Mai where Kevin bought his Giant bike last year. Well about VND 1.2m later I was ready to leave with Kevin's requested goodies. Bought a soft bike seat, water bottle, BMC jersey and bottoms, degreaser, chain cleaner tool, lights, face mask. What a bargain. Got back to HoiAn and dropped Susie’s thermos off at her apartment before heading home. Well Kevin is laid up as he fell off his bike this morning on the ride with Andrew. Appears a motorbike came out of nowhere, and Andrew braked to avoid but Kevin didn't have enough time and so collided with Andrew and went over the handle bars again! He has sustained many grazes to his arm, legs, put a ding in his helmet and his new bamboo bike. His pride is also bruised. Appears he got up and they continue on their way, stopping for coffee and cigarettes on the way home. Can't be too bad then. Vang was busy cleaning the floors when I got home. I unpacked all the goodies and then Kevin headed into town to change some money and to have a massage at a Spa. For dinner we attended the Opening Ceremony for Hoa Hien, the restaurant that we have been eating at down on the river. It was a Buffett and it was simply fantastic. The meat skewers, my Quang, salad, and these beautiful fried egg plant with meat were to die for. Even had mojito’s, beer and wine.
