Day 72 4th July 2014 Friday. Packed up and left Barn Hill just after 8am. It was Kevin’s turn to open gates on the way out of Barn Hill. Stopped for fuel at Sandfire and paid $1.98 so only put 30 litres in. Bucket loads of vans filling up and having a break. Between Broome and Pt Hedland there are not a lot of fuel stops available. Dad thought he had lost his wallet so this caused panic while everyone looked for it. Eventually found down the side of his bed. Relief. Arrived at Eighty Mile Beach Caravan Park which is situated on Wallal Downs Station at the end of a red sand dirt track and as you come over the last rise you site palm trees and then a lush green caravan park nestled to the sand dune before the beach. Would describe it as an oasis. Unfortunately we couldn’t get a powered site so we set up in the unpowered area. We were told if we want power we need to go to the office in the morning an get a number and wait for people to leave. Kevin is desperate for Foxtel so we will look to go powered. Mum and dad happy to stay unpowered and use generator. After a quick lunch we headed to the beach about 1km to the right and fished 1 hour each side of the turn of the high tide. Dad got 2 small salmon but threw them back. Nobody seems to be catching anything. Appears at low tide the water is way way out, like 100m. Kevin went for a walk and went left. Amenities are fantastic. First time in a long while I have had to turn the cold water on. Had chicken on the weber and Kevin happy. Canasta a disaster as Kevin and I played together. Got flogged.
