Day 13 - 26th June 2013 - Hue

VIETNAM | Thursday, 27 June 2013 | Views [433]

Very hot overnight as air conditioning not working properly. Felt like 32C all night and no air moving. Went for a walk along Perfume rive to the first bridge and back around again. Kevin went over the first bridge to main city and along river to the second bridge and back over to our side and back. Breakie was a choice of anything buffett style. ery nice. Decided to walk over river to the market area and we wondered around outside for a bit checking out all the fresh produce. Same same as every other market we have been to. Headed inside to have a quick look and Kevin decided he wanted a T-shirt. Well it got so hot and stuffy I had to leave as I was dripping wet, perspiration was running down my face. I told him I would meet him out on the main street. We then started looking for thongs / sandals for Kevin, but size 45 is not available. Headed over a small chanel down Bach Dang St to the Dieu De Pagoda. Some very old buildings along here. The pagoda whas a larg complex and very shady. Wondered around looking in the buildings and temple area. A resident lady came up and asked if we wanted to stay until 12 noon and join them for lunch. We said we did not want to impose but thankyou. On the way back we saw locals roasting duck, pork and chick in an open drum and rotating the meat often. The lady suggested we come back later that night for open street party. Came back across small bridge to market area and started looking for Kevin's thongs /sandals. Again no joy, do not have size 45. Big Foot!! Stopped for ice cream and then headed back across Perfume River toward our hotel. Went into a french bagette shop and ordered. Wasn't sure what it was but I though she said shredded chicken for me and ham for Kevin. The staff were very rude and food wasn't that flash. When we got back the staff offered us a drink and cold face washer. Was lovelly as of course we were dripping with sweat. Cold beer - Carlsburg with lunch was nice and cold. We were not cooling off as room was still way too hot. Kevin went down and complained and we moed rooms to another floor. After a while we deceided to head out again to go to the stadium Kevin had seen on his walk yesterday and just wonder for an hour or so the local streets. Statium had olympic rings on doors, so not sure what its purpose was. Had a running track and a veledrone and a big grassed area in the middle. There were people on the other side of stadium doing a shot put competition. Headed down another side street and stopped at local cafe for a beer - Huda by the glass. We each had 2 with ice. While we were there another painting vendor came by and as Kevin had told him yesterday we would buy from him we ended up with 3 pieces at $1 each. We called in at New Star Hotel and asked to look at their pool as they were advertising public use for $6 each. We then asked to see a room and price was $35 night which included buffett breakfast in restuarant. We went over to restuarant and looked at menu and decided we would come back tonight. When we got back to the room the TV was all about the Labor Party leadership challange so we had to watch this. Headed back to restuarant and Kevin had a hamburger and I had potato and leek soup. Soup was yummy but Kevins burger average. Had a different beer- Festival a local beer. We again had 3 different types of beer today.
