    Tawharanui is a predator free mainland island; keeping pests like weasels and rats out can be a challenge, however having the entire peninsular fenced and bailted has made this regional park a haven for New Zealand's wildlife and enable the successful reintroduction of some endangered wildlife like the North Island Kiwi. by: tristancullen Views[292] The coastline is never ending and waiting to be explored. Some of these rock formations have fossils in them from the Jurassic period. Dunes are in decline in NZ due to development and invasive species. They are mainly found in coastal areas. The dotterel often are not seen as they blend into their surrounts.
