Tawharanui - A conservation story

My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

New Zealand | Wednesday, July 3, 2013 | 5 photos

When I take my photos I’m at one with my camera and subjects. I visualize the scene that I want, what I need to do to get “the shot”. When outdoors, rain or shine, I lose myself in time.
I’ve always had a passion for nature and wildlife. At the age of seventeen I did a year’s cultural exchange with AFS to Costa Rica, the country’s wildlife being my main motivator. A big learning experience was to better understand the local peoples perceptions on wildlife and the environment.
Before I picked up my first SLR camera I volunteered as an intern in Florida and South Africa working with big cats and cheetah before becoming a zookeeper. During this time I became more focused on conservation and for me I express this most naturally through photography. I have the determination and passion to succeed. When I take a photo I want to capture the imagination of the viewer and inspire them too.
Ultimately I would like to become a full time landscape and wildlife photographer; to visit Greenland would be an amazing opportunity; to share my passion, learn and discover more about Greenland’s amazing environment, it’s people and most importantly to work and learn from Jason.
