Ugh ugh ugh...it has been a long day (and a half). My last night in Ton Sai was nice, a fireshow and a couple of beers on the beach. Then some relaxing in the sun and at 2:00, we caught a longboat to AoNang.
The min-bus picked us up at 3:00 as promised. But not as promised, we were not changed to a larger bus, but remained in the van for the entire 3-hour ride to Surathani. It had A/C, so it was n't a huge problem.
The problems began when were dropped off in the middle of nowhere and made to wait for 3 more hours. More and more people arrived, and it was funny to see their expressions (confused then angry) as they too piled under the canopy to wait for their next transport.
So three hours later, a pick-up truck came and told us to get in. Now, there were about 10 of us left at this point, each with a giant backpack, so we weren't sure what to do. As usual, our thai hosts took charge and began piling the bags in the back of the truck and then piling the people in too. Ten minutes later, we were at the pier.
The "sleeper ferry" was more like the Amistad with mattresses. The matresses were about body-width, but you were supposed to fit one and a half people on each. And of course, my space had a pole in the middle of it, so we had to shift even closer to keep me from sleeping with a metal rod between my legs. And of course the fan didn't oscillate, so it was rediculously hot as 100 people (and 100 bags) piled in.
But in the end it cooled down and i slept pretty well. We arrived 7 hours later to Koh Phangan. I'm glad I prebooked my room, becuase with the full-moon party, all the other people were scrambling to find rooms. I'm staying near the main party beach (which might pose a problem) but it is a really nice room. Clean with an en suite bathroom and hot water.
I was planning on spending the day uploading photos, but it seems my mempry card doesn't work. It shows up fine in my camera, but none of the computers show anything. I went to a shopm but there is no one on the island that actually knows about cameras. I bought a new memory card (for 55 dollars!). It seems that the new memory card isn't working either. So i don't really know what to do. Everyone else's cards read fine. I guess i will wait until i get onto mainlaand and see if someone can fix it. SO for now, no pics, but hopefully there will be some soon.
