200 Peruvians and 2 Aussies crammed into the passenger deck for the five day journey. We arrived at the port in Pucallpa 12 hours prior to departure. When we boarded, the only position available for our BYO Hammock was right next to the engine and the toilets. The combination of unbearable heat and fumes from the engine, small rivers of stinking urine flowing underneath us from the overflowing toilets, and people constantly wiping their toilet hands on our hammocks defines who we are today.
