Day 58
AUSTRALIA | Saturday, 13 August 2011 | Views [288]
As we drove along this morning we were surrounded by smoke from the fires west of Rockhampton. The drive to Hervey Bay seemed to take a long time with various stops and slow downs due to roadworks. Queensland has an extensive network of roads and we have seen repairs or improvements on nearly every road that we have travelled on over the last few weeks. We also encountered our first unfriendly Queenslander at the service station in Gin Gin, where after waiting patiently for a ute driver to fill up a number of jerry cans, when we were finally able to get to the bowser, this guy in a big truck tried to push his way in to get diesel. Fortunately John was standing there and so we were able to fill up first, but not a nice experience if a rare one. We went out to buy take away and what we saw of Hervey Bay looks interesting so more about that tomorrow.
