Had an amazing day today - went trekking in the mountains/rainforest (and boy did we have some rain). The scenery was amazing.
We had not long set out after lunch and had just past through the local village when our guide started chatting to a man, wildly digging in the middle of the field. We thought it might be the equivlent of truffle hunting coz the chap had a couple of dogs and a chicken in a basket (no not like you used to get in British pubs in the 1970's)this was a real live cockeral in a tubular shaped basket?! Anyway as if that wasn't random enough we then discovered the man was on the hunt for a tarantula - which he duly found (check out the photo). Apparently they live in the ground in holes and the reason he was digging for one was because they are supposed to cure asthma or something like that! We suspect the name of the actual illness may have got lost in translation. Anyhooo! He then proceeded to pin it down and break its front fangs (to stop it biting him)! Then carried it off in the direction of the village .....
